Stopped by a hay field down the street from my house ten minutes later I found this can’t make out the date I’m guessing 1785? Anyone have any ideas of how to clean and preserve I’m fairly new to the hobby 53ACB422-1C49-4441-A5AD-DC8070739336.webpE17D58AB-CA63-45DD-8191-B4B7E7DE5DB3.webp

That's A tough one. Congrats I'm sure a forum member will help.

How did you find it, MD or ?, how deep, open field or previous house. Nice if it cleans up.

There's a whole section on cleaning and preserving finds here on Tnet.

Nova Constellatio, pointed rays + script US = 1785. Nice find !

I found it metal detecting about 8 in down in a hay field I also found about 38 colonial buttons it’s were there was an old cross road I found a 1864 map of the area didn’t show any houses but could’ve had something earlier

Nice Nova recovery! :occasion14:

IMHO: no water, use a toothbrush and tooth pick to remove dirt...etc.

These farm fresh coins in today's high power fertilizer get toasted, understand that it will never be perfect! Still a beautiful coin. :icon_thumleft:
