Finds From An Old Dump

Well, my friend Conito@55 got the gold, but it was fun to see him get another one!
I was rewarded with a nice clay pipe bowl, a 1941 Nevada chauffeur badge, a couple of bail seals, a cute little bottle stopper, a nice bunch of quartz crystals and the usual buttons and such.

Here's the badge after a dip in the electrolysis bath:

That pipe is very cool. Used to see the white pieces in plowed fields growing up….didnt know what they were until a few years ago.

I know, right?!
At first I thought he was just lucky, but now I realize that he's just really that good with a detector.
And actually, he was very excited. He certainly doesn't take anything for granted!

At the dump are these mixed din with the trash? How deep are they? How big of an area? I got an early 1900s small dump site behind my work . I got a few buttons and a knife. That was from sifting only though. Tons of broken bottles.

Yes, just mixed in with the general trash. This particular dump covers about 2 acres. Can't get much depth because recovery speed has to be maxed out with all the iron trash in there. Something big like that badge you can get a good signal down to about 8-10 inches. Very challenging to hunt dumps, but that's the second gold coin #Conito@55 has pulled from a dump so it's definitely worth the effort!

That pipe is nice. I have never found a complete one. I know they were commonly used in the 1700s and 1800s but don't know when they were no longer used.
