So over thanksgiving I traveled to see family in kennet square pa. The property is part of the old cedarcroft estate which was owned and built by Bayard Taylor in 1859. I was not on the mansion property but exactly next property behind it, so the site had great potential. BUT, I was trying to hunt with not 1 but 3 electric dog fences, then power lines splitting the property, and security system in the house next door. It was brutal and I did not find a whole lot. I did however find what I believe to be a piece of the lead/silver based mineral galena. Neat crystal structure and very heavy for its size.

Then when I got home I did my usual cellar hole pounding, and came up with some other interesting finds.

The object that confused me the most was all the little pieces to something I'm not sure of. I couldn't find all the tiny parts but it was arranged something like this in the dirt when i found it, and has a patented date of 1878.

Looks like Galena, nice going on the IH also. Pulse induction fencing as dog, horse/cow wire fencing is a real pain when it comes to detecting. I have a great permission to detect, dates back to the 1830s the guy's diary was transcribed into a book even and was a drunk. The possibilities of finds is high, except they are a horse rescue, and the property is littered with electric fencing.

Nice finds. I don't know what your piece in question is for sure but my guess would be some kind of a hand crank mill, maybe the insides to a coffee grinder. Just my wag.

Tp, Nice finds. I'd like to "did not find a whole lot" like that every time I go out. A good hunt.

One other thing. My F75, in some areas I hunt, is chattering constantly. I will hold it straight up in the air, and if the chatter continues, I know it's emi. I'll go to all metal mode, crank up the sensitivity, and hunt by sound only. The sound of the target will jump out from the chatter, then I can check target ID, and decide to dig or not. Works for me.

Congratulations on the nice assortment of finds! :occasion14:

I only hunt in all metal so I understand and use that concept. But it was a serious fight with all these things haha.
