Re: Finds new spot 6/24&6/25

Some guys have all the luck! If I found 3 arrowheads in 1 day they would have to pull me away. Great finds. Congrats. :'(

Re: Finds new spot 6/24&6/25

I agree, you're so lucky to have a spot like that, I spend at least a couple of days to find three nice points (most of the time anyway) Can't wait to see what else you find!

Nice finds! You'll find a lot more in that field! Can't wait to see what else comes out of it!

Good luck!

[/quote well actually I found one sat. and two sun. in same field. this place was woods but owners cleared it and plowed up about 3 acres. If I had a dollar for every day I found nothing I probably could retire lol Jeff

Thanks Don,Lets go chase em! Hey just wondering ,what is all that shiny black glassy rocks in Lawrence co. along river? Is it obsidian or does it have to do with the iron industry/. happy huntin Jeff

Re: Finds new spot 6/24&6/25

I knapped a lot of that slag (except mine was from a gold mine in Canada) made some beautiful gem points out of it but it has a lot of little bubbles, cracks, and misc. imperfections that make it difficult to knapp.

Well ,it,s not for a lawn, and here it is almost July and it has not been disced. I,m guessing they are going to farm it next year .It is right beside a power plant, some of the ground is covered with fly ash making it difficult to hunt. I,ve only found stuff in the rich red soil so far. about 20 acres has been cleared but not plowed, I hope they plow it all soon Jeff

It's left over from the old civil war era pig iron furnaces that were scattered across southern Ohio.Ky. A good flint knapper should have a ball with that stuff
Don
[/quote Thanks Don, Ithought that is what it was cause it is so plentiful. You,re right it can cut the hell out of you! loos like it would make a great point. Jeff

Re: Finds new spot 6/24&6/25

The slag from the gold mine was green/grey stuff. If this black stuff is in decent sized pieces there is probably a market for it- just a thought.
