Found this item on a property with items going back to the 1700s. It's hollow and about 2" long. The opening is about the size of a US cent. It's got a seam running along it's side and constructed of thin copper or brass. Interestingly enough as the tip broke off (I will try to get it repaired if its something good) there was a conical piece of wood stuffed into the tip. Is it a tip for a bayonet?? It would seem to be to small for a sword scabbard tip. I would love to get a definitive ID on this item. Thanks!

Maybe a parasol tip?

I have a post on the what is it section for a similar item, oddly enough. But yours is more conical than mine and probably older. For that reason, you may want to check out the fur trade section of this forum and look at the "conical points" -- i.e., arrowheads made out of cut-up copper/brass kettles. To me, your piece looks like one and the fact that it had wood inside it probably adds to that.

Could be a tip from a surveyors tripod?

It has a seam and is somewhat thin for a tripod tip and too tall for a parasol. Note the flat rim.
