Finding and researching a lead near Davenport for Fire Opals, I went on a little road trip.
Info was, fire opals were found "on the Hartz farm, about a mile north of the hamlet of Mondovi north of Davenport, WA." Most of the roads are primitive that allow access to the huge wheat fields. Mondovi is nearly a ghost town, with only 3-4 residents, and old Grange building and perhaps an abandoned store. Also, there is a RR siding and several silos for loading. About a mile north is a private drive, as indicated by a sign, and about 200m off the road is a large open pit or quarry.
Mondovi is located at: 47.680725,-118.017306
The open pit is located at: 47.710917,-118.011641
If anyone is interested in scraping around out there with me, I'd make an earnest effort to contact the land owner(s), accurately convey our intentions and attempt to secure permission to take a walkabout. If the open pit doesn't pan out, then I would wager opals might be found closer to one of the southern draws of Mill Canyon, in or around 47.714873,-118.003167.
Thanks all!
