fireplace, how old?

any help on how old this is i thank you . look to me like some kind of marble on steel? sorry do not know how to crop yet :P

thank you my sister and her boy friend are in the process of cleaning out his moms house and you would not beleave the stuff in there. she died last year and was pack rat. im going to take some more pics later. thanks again

I live in a house built in the 1890's. One of the fireplaces has not been changed, has a similar cover, and has a coal grate behind the cover. It's surrounded by colored marble. Unfortuantely, your picture was so large I couldn't view it but I'd say Charlie P. is right on the money!

thanks ed, i got to learn how to crop :P thanks to some people on this site i got to learn how to scan pics with this vista. i like vista for some things it has but for pics, the xp was better
