Finally I got an old one. This was about 9" down in an old park in the woods. It used to be used as a bachelors' camp way back when. Unfortunately I have a good scanner and it picked up all the corrosion. It still looks better than I would if I spent the last 100+ years underground. My detector has a mixed mode option that combines discriminate and all-metal mode simultaneously. I got this on the all-metal side. It did not give a visual ID but made a good whisper. I figure I've got to dig the whispers if I'm going to get the old stuff. Glad I did. I hopefully will post more good finds in the future. Thanks for reading.

Congrats on the milestone and the nickel!

Nice Nickel, If you are at an old site, dig every deep signal. I normally run all metal at the old places. Nickels are elusive, but you did it right and pulled out a fine one.

Nice V,

I love old park woods. I've found countless old coins in them. They are still some of my favirite places to hunt.

Thanks for all your replies. Since I don't post much I feel I owe the rest of you and embarrassing story. I found this coin on Saturday and was so excited about it that I decided to go back on Sunday even though it rained hard and I knew it would be a mud bog out in the woods.
I figured I should wear my boots to help with the mud. When I got out there and started detecting I was getting a beep everytime I swung the coil to the left. Dammit if I didn't wear a pair of steel toed boots. I had to hunch foward to keep the coil away from my feet and after about 2 hours of that, my back was killing me so I had to cut the hunt short. It just goes to show that with every silver lining, there's a cloud. Hope you enjoyed that.

Great job!!!! I have yet to break the 1900 mark or find a V-Nickel.

Nice job!!! I's never found a V! Love the steel toe story :tongue3: :tongue3: :tongue3: :tongue3:

We will have to get together with the rest of the boys one of these days!
