First 3 Merry widows tin!

Found my first 3 merry widows tin today! Just the top half, but Im happy. Found a wheat and an 1907 IHP also. Any day I find an indian out here is a good day, so this was a great day!

Its better to only find the top. If you find both pieces together, you may not want to open it for fear of the contents !

I have found a a complete tin and only the top also.
I was told that sometimes those empty tins acted as change purses.

You may find it hard to believe, but it’s true. In 1873 any form of contraception was illegal in the United States, punishable as a misdemeanor with a six-month minimum prison sentence. The act was designed to prevent the sale of obscene literature and pornography. Because of the Act, vendors had to find other ways of selling their wares. Yep, I know about that. It was my first season detecting. No idea what it was. I opened it. It was nasty, and I remember my wife saying "you are NOT bringing that into this house". Lol
