...maybe?

Yeah, I slacked gettin' this post up (these are some of my finds from the hunt with Modern Miner), but I had good reason to not feel like posting anything. My Christmas present from work was being laid off due to "the economy". I'll keep the "choice" words to myself. Anyway, don't know for sure about the buckle, but I was hoping someone might be able to give an approximate age(?) - I was thinking possibly CW era saddle buckle... :dontknow:. Also dug this flat, heavy, sorta' round piece of iron. Pulled it from just inside the treeline of where Doug was saying a short but heated battle took place during the CW - it was around 10 inches deep (going by the measurements on my digger). Dug a rivet from a soldier's pack and possibly a button from one as well (they were about three inches from each other). The last odd piece is the "hook". Was pulled from just inside the treeline as well at about seven inches. Looks to be brass but not sure. It's quite strong and not very flexible at all. Any ideas?

All in all it was a great day of hunting. We had a lot of laughs as usual, and Joe did find that outstanding Hibernia copper... Enjoy the pics and thanks for stopping by - keep on swingin' and hope everyone has a safe and happy new year... :occasion18: :occasion18:

By the way, the last pic was a "group shot gone wrong" - now we all know Doug and Chris' favorite past-time - poor Joe got stuck in between them... :tongue3: :D

Remind me not to shake hands with Doug or Chris anymore!!

Cool finds and great pictures (exept that last one) Do those black pants make my butt look big?

:occasion14: Happy New Year! :occasion16:

Its hard to tell on iron like that it could be some sort of strap buckle used for a mule maybe?

Hopefully, I'll have my electrolysis tank set up in another week or two. Will see if that helps it any... :icon_scratch:

Nice finds. The second picture looks like a rosette.

Hi....I found a piece that looks like the one you found in a field a few weeks ago, about the same shape and size, even the same build up of crud and rust, I have it soaking in a bowl of molasses and water, I saw somewhere that will remove the rust, and it is slowy doing that, I can just about see an outline of what I am hoping is a cw belt buckle. :)

that last picture is too funny!!

Hey, I make some of my best finds there sometimes. :tard: :icon_jokercolor: ;D

Is it just me folks, or does that look like a little bunny rabbit image on Andy's back? :icon_scratch:
I've heard of a monkey on your back, but never a cute little bunny. ;D

Andy,
I know we didn't score like Joelonial did that day, but you did find a few relics. It's a neat feeling just to know you actually stood where there was CW action. Here is a little history on that spot:
http://www.mindspring.com/~nixnox/history2.html

I still think that wire may have been used as a fish hook. It has an eyelet, a sharpened tip, and the large creek is in those woods.
That's my guess, and I'm stickin' to it.

Let us know on that 43' penny. It should be steel.

Willy - that '43 is actually steel. It's in between cleaning stages that I've been trying out with the "steelies". What you are seeing is the reflection of other light/color in my room. Threw me for a loop when I first noticed it as well...

Thats amazing to find stell penny In any shape at all

can't help with IDing any of the finds, but wanted to say i'm sorry aabout the job situation. hope things look up for you real soon.

Know the feeling. Friends at Moen, Hatteras, and BSH, all around New Bern, NC have been telling me the same thing.
