Tesoro Vaquero
Needed a new MD, and the best available around here with some promise of service afterwards was the Vaquero. Today I took her for our first date into the woods to just get acquainted.

First hit was a circa 1700-1800 door or trunk hand-wrought hinge, and then a few pieces of rusted tools, a tobacco can, a shotgun shell end, and some pieces of metal. Then, my ears burst with the next sound.....It was big and square.. Couldn't decide where to start to dig at first. It was only a few inches deep, and was a "MARTINI" enameled metal sign, someone used for BB practice shooting, maybe. It looks like from the 1950's... app. 18" x 24"... And already has a spot on the wall.

Thanks. The more I look at the Martini sign, the more I like it, and I realize that it will always be a pleasant reminder of my MDing, unlike all those small things that get hidden away in drawers and forgotten.

I like that sign. What type of site are you searching, perhaps an old home? I was also trying to discern the machine you are using, I couldn't find a Vaquero listed anywhere, even on google.

I was searching the woods next to my home, we live on a mountain near a small village . Tesoro makes the Vaquero model (I'd say it's a step below the Tejon, and a step above the Cibola), and it's incredibly light, and deep seeking.

Wtg, keep us posted on your digs.

Cool finds of many relics to come with the tesoro. Congrats.
Happy huntin

Could you post a pic of the shot gun shell with the side where the firing pin struck? Maybe can I.D. the year. Thanks, D.D.

The shotgun shell end is a Winchester 12 Gauge..Please check back tomorrow for a pic, as my battery is recharging and it's night for me, and too dark for a good macro pic.

I am in Italy now and the land I've been searching has been spitting up 1700-1900 relics, nothing fabulous, except today, I found what I was looking for; a small Roman hob nail..This tells me I'm in the right area to break into the first centuries, and gives me the fantasy I can keep up with Crusader....OK, maybe not,.... but at least the possibility is there...;)

Also got today my first coin with the Vaquero, a 1922 5 lira. The feeling was amazing, especially after first picking out a bottle cap with disappointment, re-scanned and found the target.

Still learning the Vaquero, still digging too much junk..She is very sensitive and wants to please.

I 've had a Vaq for over a year now and have really enjoyed it. Once you figure out how different targets affect the tone you won't be digging as much trash. Also try thumbing the disc knob to see where targets fall off at. Good hunting, Sqwaby

Thanks for the advice..I've been thumbing the disc and get a lot of chopped tones, then silence. So let those finds go, but these last few days I wanted to find evidence of the Roman period, so went just below "iron".

I do find I have trouble determining depth. How does that work? Deepest find so far is 9" without Super tuning. When I did super tuned, I was getting too many signals, so backed off until I have a better handle on the tones and what they are telling me.. I'm just searching around my own property, so can go over it anytime to find any missed targets later, with the different coils and different settings. When I get the hang of it, I'll go further aground.

I have never used the Pin-point button as yet. Just been ex-ing (old habits die hard) and using the probe. Is there any benefit it offers other than for pinpointing? I seemed to have read it can be used for identification of a find , not just its location..... Thanks, Goldnow

Here is a picture of the Winchester shotgun shell end you asked for..I also included a picture of a brass mount that looks pretty old by the end's design. Possibly for a knife sheath or a belt. Someone also mention possibly for furniture...Any ides out there?
