Detector(s) used
Tesoro Cibola
Hello all, I am a newbie here. I just picked up a Tesoro Cibola yesterday. A friend and I took the detectors out today on the beach next to my apartment complex. While he was there all we found was a few nails, and some melted aluminum. Started out slow, and he left early. I stuck it out for probably another hour and a half. Not two minutes after he left, I found my first coin, nothing big just a 2007 quarter. Pretty cool hour or so though, I ended up finding all newer coins that people had dropped. Total was 2 quarters, 3 dimes, 1 nickel, and 8 pennies. Was really cool to start figuring out my Cibola too.

Welcome Jason !

Sounds like a good Start !

Thank Jeff, I feel it was a good start too. I got to learn my detector and get a little confident with it today. I think a few more trips to my little beach before I try to find some good old places to check out.

And ANY finds are good finds...
That's right. Detectorists are scavengers, recovering that which others inadvertently leave behind. Seen that way, anything worth more than nothing is good.

I started with the Cibola's predecessor, the Silver Sabre II. Were I to do it over again, I would have tone ID. Either way... have fun.

No you've gone and done it. You dug some goodies and your life will never be the same. :laughing7:
You've got a good machine not doubt about that.
Congrats on your first finds and Welcome to tnet.

Second day out with the metal detector.... No money, but got a lucky horse shoe and found mostly iron farm parts and old nails.

Still learning the machine, but starting to understand a lot more. Today I really learned how to use my pinpoint feature. I thought the thing was crazy until I noticed it ramps up and dead drops off once it is over the later edge of the item. Did some testing on how deep the Cibola will go at a few setting. My normal settings I can air test a tab at 8-9 inches, and overdriving the sensitivity 11-12 inches. That is much better than I thought it would be.

Havin a great time

tesoro cibola is #1 :headbang: :headbang: :headbang:

Way to go Jason. Far better than my first day many years ago. Best of luck out there!

Welcome to the hobby, I hear the Cibola is a great machine and very deep.
I think you're in for a lot of fun.

Thanks Johnnie, The first weekend with the MD went great. I put in about 10 hours getting used to the machine and figuring things out. I found several modern coins, a horseshoe, a bunch of trash and tabs, and yesterday found a Miraculous medal. I have a friend with plot of with an old house and barn on it. This plot of land was bought from, and right next to a national historic plantation that dates back to early 1700s. The old house was a slave quarters they believe. There sure is a lot of trash and tabs around it. My detector was going off like I was sending morse code. I think I have plenty of digging to do at this old place!

Cool, I'm in the same boat.

I got out Easter Sunday on my first ever hunt and found a few coins and some bottle caps. Until metal detecting, I never thought that finding a penny could be so satisfying. ;D
