I think I'm starting to get the hang of this. I found my first wheaty today. (1956) I also found a 64 Quarter. The houses I was hunting where built in the 1840's and the yards are very trashy. I'm hoping as I get better with this machine that I can revisit the sites and find some real coins. The mxt makes a lot of noise but its way better then the old WalMart special that I had.

Welcome and yes, with that detector you will
enjoy revisiting old sites!

Welcome to T-net. I also use the MXT as my main machine. If ya have the patience to learn it you will be in the loot. I have had several other machines and wouldn't trade the MXT for any other. Luck in the hunt.

PegLeg,

Nice first finds with your MXT. Suggest picking up a copy of Jeff Foster, MXT Edge. Make sure your TRACK switch is in the 'Ground' position when you balance, then switch to 'LOCK'. On your 'Threshold' is just making chatter, then set your 'Dual Control' to just below 4. and set 'Gain' at preset.

Give that a try on your next outing.

Pegleg, welcome to TNet! That MXT is a solid machine that will do well for you.
It took me over a year to find my first silver quarter. . . you're ahead of the game

Take care,

Thanks for the advice 49er! I'll try the adjustments on the next hunt.

Watercolor- i think your right the MXT seems solid. I'm in a history rich area and the only one who's even though about metal detecting around here. No telling what will turn up!!!!

The MXT is definetley a "solid machine" ,I've had mine since Dec. 06' and my find's have increased ten-fold.I'm with 49er' on his set up,sound's good.It might take you some time but I hunt relic's at Gain Maxed and Disc. to nothing....After a while you'll know what you're diggin'....Sound's like you are off to a good start Pegleg.....Best of Luck to ya and Nice find's!!!!

Nice digs! Let's see some pictures now!

I know! I got to figure out how to use the forum functions. I think the penny is a keeper. I'm trying to assemble a collection for my daughter. Maybe she'll have something of value when shes older. Anyone have any advise on cleaning copper? I've heard a potato works well.

The wheatie and silver quarter are real coins...and real good finds... Not sure what you mean by real finds... But those are excellent ones... :)

Your right they are good finds. When I was a kid, I collected whatever I could find. Never could afford the rare coins found at the coin shops. Now that I can afford them, I have all the cost of being grown. (Cars, Houses, Family) Not much room for buying coins! I've always wanted some gold coins, Indians and half dimes. I can justify them if they are acquired for free!!!!!!! Besides, its has to be a rush to pull a 150 year old coin out of someones back yard.

nice finds pegleg  yes keep going back to those sites ! the more you get to know your machine the more you will be surprized at whats still there waiting for you :o congrats
