First Find!

Just wanted to share my first ever find. I dug it this morning before the heat got too bad.

I located it in the roadbed of a railroad long gone. The significance of the RR and the area was it was the line utilized by southern forces evacuating Charleston in Feb 1865. I plan on many more trips to the area, especially once it cools down some!

Thanks very much everyone for the support. Hopefully I can return to the same area this weekend. Turns out I actually had two additional "finds".

The first (and most exciting), came when I was leaving. I stopped at the property nearby due to the resident being outside. He asked if I was searching the "revolutionary war era house remains"? WHAAAAAAT?! I found no reference to it on any maps (from the late 1700's, 1800's and early 1900's), that I had used in my research. He described where the site was located and told me I was welcome to search it. Dunno if I'll shoot for that specifically this weekend or not. It may wait until it cools down more and the underbrush thins. Primarily due to the last "find" I came away with...a real nice helping of chiggers!! Yoooowww. Damned things have been driving me crazy the past two days!! LOL

I think I'll just stick to the "bullet road" this weekend!
