Prospecting
I am new to artifact identification. I primarily prospect for gold, but I brought home a stone that captures my imagination. It has gotten me wondering if it is in fact a stone tool of some sort. My guess is a hand striker to break open shellfish. It was found on a coastal beach in Washington. The stone is harder than steel. I took a knife to it and it left a metal line with no effect on the stone. I have zero experience with this type of thing, so it could be just a rock. My wife thinks that is the case. What do you all think?

Although it is an interesting looking stone ,the color has a look of jadeite but probably isn't,I think your wife is right.I do not see any work on the stone.

Looks like a natural stone not an artifact but I’m sure there is some artifacts to be found on that beach , keep looking

Unfortunately it’s not an artifact. There are several Western WA hunters on here. If you search their threads it’ll give you an idea of what to look for out there. By the way, I grew up in Everett.
