Found what appears to be some type of old coin. I think its made of copper. It has designs on both sides of it and the only thing I can make out on it is a 4. I looked at some of the reales and escudos on this site and this coin has some very similar signs as some of those coins.Sorry I dont know how to post pictures. I read some of the posts and there is a lot of talk about replicas. I dont know about this one but it looks pretty old and im pretty sure its copper. Did they make coins out of copper back when? Something different for me anyway because im just getting strated metal detecting and dont know anything about old coins. I stiil havent found any silver or gold. My wife has a digital camera. How do I post pics and what do I need to post them besides the camera?

Re: First for me!!

Yes, most of the really old large cents etc were made of copper. You likely have a good old coin there.
Post a picture...heres how:

After hooking up the camera with a USB cable to your computer, turn the camera on. You should have a window pop up with a number of choices. Select "Microsoft Camera and Scanner Wizard". Take the defaults and pay attention to where the pictures are being placed.....you will see the path.
(example: C:\Documents and Settings\username\My Pictures\Kodak)

With the pictures now on your computer, you will need to resize them since they are too big to use for a T-Net post. There is a maximum image size.

Go to the folder where the pictures have been placed and RIGHT click on a photo and choose "open with" and select Paint. Inside Paint, click on "Image" and then "Stretch/Skew". For Horizontal and Vertical Settings, choose a standard percentage for both. My pictures import huge into paint, so I choose 40% for both of these settings. Ignore the two settings in the SKEW field. Click OK and then go to File and Save. The image is now small enough to add to T-Net. Simply Browse from your message to location of your saved photo and it will be uploaded.

Looks like some kind of cob coin, but other than that, I have no idea. Have you posted this in the "Whatz It" section too? It probably would be identified over there.

Looks like a ........
1 R 1746 PotosĂ Assayer Q KM Bolivia 28a Philip V cob

Obverse: [no legible legend]
Reverse: the legend is in three rows, with each row divided into three sections: top row: [all sections obscured]; second row: [left section obscured] | VL | TR third row: [left section obscured] | 746 | P

Weight: 47.1 g (3.05 grams) Diameter: 18 mm

If it is that's a great first silver find.I've noticed you been wanting silver (seen some of your post around) don't get much better in my book. :laughing7:

I've got a few copper cobs, not sure if they made them in that style. :icon_scratch: (I'll look) Any other finds? ???

When I found this coin the only other things I found were some lead bullets and clad coins. I dont think this old coin is silver, Im pretty sure its copper. I found some other things in the same area the other day and Im not sure what they are. I will try to post all of these in the whats it later tonight. This area is very trashy and my Ace 250 found these things. I know there must be more to find there. Thanks for looking and for your help!
