First gold ring of the year and it's a FAT one! 14K 9.6 grams.
Beach was pretty wide and flat today, not many low spots but a few gentle slopes and it wasn't really looking that great, wind was kicking a bit too...Max and Denny were in the same boat but Denny pulled a sweet 1896 Indian Head penny which is something we don't see very often on the beach. Tgts were pretty much few and far between but there was one spot where I was that had quite a bit of stuff to dig.
It was pretty "craptastic" for the most part but with some of the heaver junk showing up and the junker ring that was there I had hope! It took a bit but when I got a 12.32 on the CTX I figured it was either a messed up penny, copper piece or even more aluminum. Surprise! It was a ring...a BIG, FAT one! Based on the number on the CTX and how it looked at first I took it for a brass ring or some brass pipe fitting. Guess I should have looked at it a bit closer! I had already gridded through this one spot anyway and had pretty much cleaned it out so moved back to the car. When I dumped the pouch I picked it up and was like "Woah, it's HEAVY"! Don't know why I never bothered to look closer on the beach but there it was, big as day 14K! No loop needed. 2016 Gold Ring #1 14K 9.6 grams.
Thanks for looking! Best of luck to all of you!
