I just completed the first short hunt with the new Platinum. I have to say that I am impressed with it. Forty five minutes and 86 cents towards the cost of the new detector! The target responce was so much better than the old 3300 that I had been using for the last 7 years. I found one nickle that locked on in three different sweep directions but on one sweep would bounce to pull tab. The nickle signals all read four inches depth while the pull tab signal would read 6 inches. Dug the target found the nickle at 4 inches and a crushed piece of aluminum at 5.5 inches about 1 inch to the right of the nickle. This is something I think the 3300 would have missed or not ID'ed as a nickle anyway. I found that if the VDI locked in on a good target and didnt bounce it was worth digging. It did get fooled twice on parts of crushed aluminum cans that read as dimes but I feel this might have fooled most machines. All in all when the Platinum locked on to a good target and the VDI didnt jump more than 1 number and the depth stayed constant it would be a good target. Total for the day 2 quarters, 2 dimes, 2 nickles and 6 pennies. I dont think this was too bad considering I am still learning the machine. The machine does need to be ground balanced from time to time to keep calm (I did it twice in forty five minutes but its easy if you read the directions dont pump the machine like a popular youtube video demonstrates). Over all a good first time out with the new machine.

I love my platinum. The longer I have it better I'm getting with it. I guess that's any machine but you're right about target separation it does a good job at that if I slow down and listen to what it's telling me. Good luck to you.
