Hi Everybody!
I found another home site that dates back to 1905, so I figured if it wasn't fenced off, it was worth a shot. I started swinging the X-Terra 505 around the largest trees I could find as there was no obvious sign of where the house used to be. I was using the 6" 18.75 kHz DD coil in all metal mode, 19 tones. There was so much trash, and it was almost overwhelming with all the large deep iron signals, aluminum foil, etc... I was about to call it quits after hitting the trees and flagging/gridding 2 30x30' sections and finding nothing of interest after 2 hours other than a few beavertail pulltabs. I figured just for the hell of it, I would just walk into the middle of the field and randomly start following the plow lines. I got a good signal pretty quickly among the good amount of trash still in this area and it was the brass buckle. It looks old but I have done no research on it yet. About 15 ft away I got the high pitch of a good zinc or IH penny hit. The numbers (27-30) and tone were perfect and when I dug it, the pinpointer first hit on a piece of iron but it was a low tone of course, & didn't ID like the IH. I re-checked the hole and about 5" down still in the hole I found the Indian Head. I could barely recognize it & cant see a date, but it's still a first for me.
I started to really hit this area very slowly now and I started seeing a lot of broken porcelain, dishes, etc... About 2 ft from the IH I got a solid copper/dime signal. About 6" down I found the pocket watch case. It is made by keystone and from a quick google search it seems they were no longer made after 1903. I swung for a few more minutes, but I will be going back there ASAP! I really needed this to motivate me! As far as old coins this year, I've found only 5 wheats so far with the X-terra, and 2 with my F2, but the oldest was a 1945. This is possibly the oldest coin I have found so far. HH to all, Scott
