I got a chance to go with my dad, shallow digger, to that old park he found his IH, merc and barber at. Things started out slow, all I found was junk and a few zincs here and there. After a couple of hours, I was about to give in and sat on a tree to watch my dad. After a little of this I went back and got my machine and told myself I needed to find a wheat so that I wasn't the only one in the group without a keeper. I went toward my uncleand started swingin. After a little while, I got what I thought was a deep penny signal. I got down, hoping this was my keeper. Turns out a pop tab about 3 inches. :-\ I got back up and within five steps got another signal which I thought was going to be a zinc. I dug a small two inch hole, flipped it over and got a signal in the pod. I worked my way back up about an inch, when a penny popped out. I picked it up and saw the back, which said ONE CENT. Thinking I had just dug a wheat, I dashed to my uncle and he told me it was an IH. Turns out to be a 1907, my first injun ever (which my dads only 2 Indians are) so now my family has three 1907 IHs. Hasn't cleaned up the greatest yet, but I'm working on it. Silly me for thinking it was a wheat.

Thanks for looking,
Filthy Flyer

Still looking for my first dug Indian. Congrates on the find and isn't it wonderful to be able to hunt with family!!!

Nice job Flyer! Well, now you know what an Indian Head Penny sounds/looks like when you're hunting...found in the zinc penny range...that's where most of mine have come in at unless there's another object close by skewing the signal. Heat up some peroxide in the microwave (just a little will do in a small dish of some sort)...get it near boiling. Then put the penny in and watch it fizz for a while...maybe an hour or so...then pull it out and clean it some. Repeat to your satisfaction. Good job!

You got that Indian cause you had a good attitude and din't give up. :icon_thumleft:
I got a 1907 IH yesterday, myself, the first one in a few months, and it sure felt good. Yours is in better shape than mie. Go out and get some more, they gotta be there.

A one inch deep indian head. You just never know till you dig. Great find, Dan

Nice job, I'm glad you started to swing again because I know you were getting discouraged. Silver is next! Maybe we will get a few more warm days and get another chance yet in 2009.
