My buddy Tony and I were able to get out for a hunt today. We hunted an early 1800s farmhouse that is still in use. Found 2 indian heads along the driveway not too long into the hunt (1884, 1897).

I kept hunting along the driveway and got s solid +84 hit on the DFX. At 3 inches out popped a nice religious medal. Unfortunately its not silver.. its one of those cheap light metals that they love to make those religious medallions out of.

Also found a 1916 wheat and a 1935 Canadian cent in this area.

Made my way around to the side yard and found a few interesting things. First find was a piece of a coin purse :love10:... needless to say I hunted the whole area slowly to find the coins that were in it... apparently there were none...:icon_scratch: Pictures of the coin purse piece are in the compilation pics at the end of the post. I also found a piece of a shoe buckle, a ring that looks to be junk even though it shines pretty well, and then I popped out a nice 10 cent trade token.

Not far from the token I got a rock solid unwavering +90 hit on the DFX. Pinpointing at 6 inches deep. Turned out to be a nice seemingly intact pocket watch that is either copper or brass. I'm currently soaking it to see if I can clean it up a bit. Hopefully I'll actually be able to open it up without breaking it.

Here are a couple compilation pics of the finds for the day. Thanks for looking.

Nice finds! Thanks for sharing...

great hunt, and your post overall was a good read, congrats on your finds.

Take your watch to a watchmaker. He might be able to open it for you. With engraving like that it was probably a better quality watch with a screw on back. The serial number on the movement should give you the date and details of manufacture.
Good luck & HH

That is a nice batch of finds. I bet there is some silver around there somewhere. Thanks for sharing.

That's a great hunt!!

I found a pocket watch a month or so ago. It couldn't have been any cheaper.........a real junker. But it was still cool to find. Yours is WAY nicer. Congrats.

Thanks for the advice. I'm not going to fuss with it too much... but like you said... definitely tempting.

now that is neat as heck a complete pocket watch! I would be tempted enough to open it for sure, but only very carefully, even if it took weeks. Congrats
