Well even if not a huge find or event I finally found my first mercury dime today lol.
I have only picked up this hobby about a month ago when I bought an equinox 800 to try and see how it goes. Well I have been digging away when I can get out with a lot of holes dug and only mostly pocket change and one silver dime so far.

I got this signal this morning down the road from my house and I knew it was a great sounding one. Sure enough I dug this beauty out of the hole. Sure it may not be anything to exciting for some but man what a great rush it gave me and think it got me even more hooked on detecting than I already started to become lol.

Now back outside to go at it some more, all I keep thinking if there was one in this area there has to be a couple more or maybe even a barber which I can’t wait to find my first one of soon I hope.

Silver is always exciting! A single Mercury, or a pocket spill from long ago. Congrats!

Congrats on your first Merc dime, a beautiful coin design. Your soil there is very kind to silver. Do avoid rubbing, and in the process scratching, the coin when dug. Congrats again.

My most precious recovery is a 1917 Merc...my 7 year old daughter demanded that we dig it after hitting aluminum can slaw all day...her face erupted with joy, and mine did too. Won't ever forget it.

EVERY find has a story and is a treasure.

Nice job on yours!

Don’t for a second think that just because you see some of the spectacular things posted here that it’s common or makes that Mercury any less awesome (IMHO).

I’m of the same opinion as Megalodon. Now that you have seen how silver looks coming out of the ground, the next time you hit silver, just leave it covered in it’s dirt while in the field and wait until you are home to clean with water. Swiping right or left is for Tinder, not coins...

Great looking silver and congrats on you first, nice save

Ha lol it took me a min to figure out what you meant by swiping right and left is for Tinder lol. I am still laughing at the Tinder reference lol.

Thanks for the advice and heads up on rubbing them with dirt on it. I think when I dug this I didn’t even remember about the not rubbing it with my fingers in the dirt because I was so excited. Advice taken and will for sure remember that when and if I find more.

Congrats on your first Merc Dime. Put that coin in a 2x2 holder, and label it with the date, where you found it, and the detector you used, along with " 1rst Merc Dime ". I still do that with all of the silvers and old coppers that I find.

Sweet finds! :occasion14:

Hey hey! Congrats on the first Merc............many more to follow for sure!!!!!:icon_thumleft:

Any first is a great first! Share them with joy and pride! Congrats to you!

Welcome to the world of metal detecting. You have chosen a difficult path with many curlycues, zig zags, and rocky paths spiraling downwards around a dark and bat infested bottomless chasm.

It's a crazy hobby!

Congrats on your first Merc! my first one came last fall and it was a 1943 too, I have found that to be the most popular year (for me) to find.

Congrats on your first merc save. It’s only going to get better. That 800 is a great machine. Good luck out there.

Nice!! I have yet to dig a Merc

I had such a hard time finding my first mercury dime. Like you said, it was one heck of a rush. Now I find dozens every year. Keep after it and keep learning and you will too!

Great find! I would be excited too. I'm two months in the hobby and have only found one silver Rosie and I was super excited. Can't wait to find a Merc or silver quarter. This is what keeps me digging.
