Nice zach! I never like to leave money sitting in the ground. If you could average that much per week, that's over $150 in a year (provided you can detect year round like we can in Cali) What detector were you swinging?

nice finds you should do close ups of your good finds like your Mexican coin. I know I would like to see it

I'm currently using a discover 1100 (beginners detector). I'm probably going to get a good metal detector soon but don't know what to get. Any Ideas? Thanks, Zach.

It didn't clean up to well but the date is 1980.

Fantastic Haul. Congrats!

You keep this up and you'll have $$$ to buy that new detector:thumbsup:

Thanks, what kind of detector should I buy? Zach

That's quite a haul. Keep at it, and one of these days you will hit the silver or maybe a gold? Have lots of fun. Caley

Well it seems like you already have a "good" detector. You did well here. Consider holding off on a new machine for just a bit. Use the next month or so to try and excel at using this detector. Challenge yourself to pinpoint like a pro...study the changes when you start applying more/less discrimination...notice the difference in responses after a nice soaking rain...get a better feel for consistency in finds in the spots you have available to detect.(was today a lucky day or are you really in sync with your machine or are you in a place with few other detectorists to compete with?).

After another month, ask yourself if coinshooting at schools & parks brings perfect contentment or does it make you wonder and hunger to discover what other treasures are out there? If your luck & skills maintain, you'll have an additional $100 or so to add to whatever budget you have in mind for a new machine.

Many times when someone asks the very open ended question that you did..." I'm probably going to get a good metal detector soon but don't know what to get. Any Ideas? "...you will get a slew of responses and opinions that are all over the map. Giving it just a bit more time and practice will help you make more sense of these replies and put you in a position to make much better choice on your next machine. You want to find a machine that will work best for YOU given your wants/needs and under circumstances that are similar to yours.

Thanks, I still have yet to find silver. I don't care if its a coin or not I just need to dig some up. HH and have a great day, Zach.

Thanks for you two cents. I don't think the school I hunted was detected because there were targets ever where. The best spot was next to a basketball court. There was a signal every few feet. The reason I want a different detector is because it only finds targets at a max of 6inches and it only has 3 sounds (Iron, mid-range and copper/silver). I figured if I got something that could detect deeper and has better signal readings I would find some older coins that my detector can't pick up. Thanks and have a great day, Zach.

Yeah basketball courts are easy pickins in a sense, just because of the way they get used...of course when others figure that out and beat you there...then not so much.

The area by the basketball court is a good place to find jewelry!! Take a ring and bury it in your yard, take a swing over it and see what sounds it makes. If the area you detected is virgin, you should take it slow and you will probably find some jewelry!! Work the area over and over, until you think it is devoid of any goodies. Ya did purdy good for a beginners model....WTG!!

hit some fresh water beaches lots of lost things there. just remember that ring come up the same as pull tabs on most detectors

I plan to go back sometime this week and detect the basketball court again. There were still tons of good targets, I just didn't have enough time to dig them all. HH, Zach.

I've never hunted a beach but would love to. The closest beach to me is Detroit Metro but I think that place is very well picked over. I'll have to do some research to find a different beach to detect. HH, Zach.

Zach: Everybody has upgrade-itis, even people with $1000 + machines. While there will certainly be coins below 6 inches, as you use your machine more and more, you will probably find that the majority of US coins, even pretty old ones, will fall in the surface to 6" deep range. A major determining factor in what you will find is the age of the site, what it was used for, the number and type of people that were there over the years, and whether or not it has been picked over already. The other thing to mention is that a lot of coin shooters, with plenty of audio options, will setup their machines for the same 3 tones you mentioned.

Zach , what city are you in? There is sterling state park beach down I-75. I just hunted a sand bar on Tuesday in another local lake, found 39 coins ..... Nothing old, but there were so many signals that I just cherry picked.
