Detector(s) used
Tesoro Cortes/Teknetics T2
I am curious did any one else have a Star Trek metal detector as a kid.I have always been interested in metal detecing.I finally bought one about 4-6 yrs.ago silver umax.Used it to hunt around my old house and a neighbors house, then stuck it in closet and would hunt my yard ever once in a while.I have recently bought 2 more detectors and have been using them quite a bit at schools and a park.I see a lot of old houses I would like to hunt but just can't seem to go ask someone for permission.Point being it has always interested me even as a kid.

Hope you still have that star trek detector, I'll bet it's worth way more than what you paid for it.

Permission - If you don't stop and ask...you'll never know. Actually, asking isn't one of my strong points. So, I have a hunting buddy. Most of the time I drive and part of our rules are the person not driving asks :) .

When my buddy drives, I still make him ask ;) .

When I am alone, I either drive by wishing or stop and ask myself. It's no big deal, all them who you are, why you're there and what you'll expect to find. ie; "I'm wildrider and I'm from down on Oak st and I've admired your house for a long time. The reason why I am here is, I metal detect as a hobby and I know its an older home. How old is it? I bet it's had alot of kids playing in it and I thought there might be some old stuff in the yard they might have lost. do you care if I look? Most of the time the give some info about how long they've been there and they may have lost something (ring) and maybe you'll find it for them....'

Play it by ear.

unfortunately I don't have the star trek detector.I have considered trying to find someone to hunt with anyway even if it is at old schools and parks.

Wow! That one is like worlds above the Radio Shack kit-built ("Science Fair"?) Detector I had as a kid. Just last weekend my Brother commented how he refused to admit we were related when I took it to Ocean City on a vacation in the early 70's. :D

At least the Star Trek one has an enclosed coil instead of a bare printed circuit board loop. ::) The "headphones were a transistor radio earpiece with a "Y" plastic tube that slipped over the end and one upper arm of the tubes went in each ear. Tres high tech. The coil shaft was a telescoping radio antenna.

But it did work . . . after a fashion. You could tell whether you were inside a car or not with your eyes closed relying only on the miracles of modern electronics.
