Hi everyone, This is my first post. Sorry no pics, my digital is broke :'( I've been MD the past few weeks and wanted to share what my husband and I have found. We live in NC, so there are alot of feilds around and old houses. We found a 1950,51 and 57 silver quarters, 1950,63 silver dimes, 1918 (found when I was a cashier),37 penny, and a 1939, 45(found when I use to be a cashier),47 nickel. The cool thing about the 1945 nickel is that it use to be a war nickel. I guess between 1942-45 they needed the nickel for war and put more silver into these nickels. I've always wondered why it looked so different. When we first moved here, we found a swimming hole that was almost dry from the lack of rain, so we decided HEY...........that would be a GREAT spot. Who's going to care if we dig small holes? I mean we always cover them back anyway. So we are digging away and find quarter after quarter, rings, keys and other stuff when a park ranger came down and told us we could do that....OOPS.........! We ended up leaving with over $30 in clad (I guess that's what you all call it) It was fun while it latest anyway!

Very nice! :D

Yeah, between mid-1942 and 1945 they made nickels with either 35% or 40% (not sure which) silver because they needed nickel for the war effort. All war-time nickels have a P, D, or S above the building on the back. Always a great find! :D

Welcome to the forum and congrats on finding all the clad ;D.

Park Rangers are bad for that :D :D :D - guess they don't want to take the chance of those divots turning into brown spots.

Welcome Aboard and thanks for sharing......HH/NS

Welcome and congrats on your first silver!

Welcome aboard.

The park ranger may have wanted to hunt the site himself and you beat him to it!!!!!!! ;D ;D ;D Geez, what a site that must be, all the rings and clad and stuff...dang that ranger!
There are other good sites, you'll just have to search for them. Happy Hunting.

Welcome to the forum and thanks for the great story. You might go back to that park and ask for permission to hunt that site. Hey you never know, you need to tell him what you are looking for and if you find any rings that you would be glad to return them to the owners if you can find them. Also tell him how you always fill in your holes and carry out all the trash you dig up.

Hey you never know, it might work. Good Luck and hope to SEE some pictures of your finds the next time. Tell the wife, Christmas is coming and a new digital camera would be nice under the tree.

Ringfinder, she IS the wife!!! She'll have to tell SANTA CLAUS what she wants. ;D

welcome to the forum and congrats on silver, if the area you were detecting was in state park here in nc , then sadly the ranger is right as detecting is not allowed in state parks , good luck on future finds and keep u s posted

try explaining how you will be cleaning up all the metal debri at the same time so no swimmers will get cut running around barefoot. sounds like a great spot.

Welcome to the forum and hobby Outdoorgirl. Sounds like you have both gotten off to a great start. Yeah them pesky park rangers LoL. One good thing is they didn't bring the full weight now on you. They can hand out some severe finds, take your stuff, car and a little bit of jail. So good thing you walked out with something.

You picked a great place to join. Certainly loads of great peps with loads of great tips.

Welcome aboard,

Hi outdoorgirl,

Congrats on your silver. Sounds like the water hole was a good spot.
Always best to ask permission before detecting anywhere. Keeps you from getting into trouble and of course there is the MDing code of ethics ;)
Not sure where it's posted, maybe someone can provide the link?
Keep up the good work and look forward to seeing more pics.
