Hi! Me and my mom have been detecting about a year and a half and our earliest find was a 1901 Indian Head. Today we went to an old fence (which I'd estimate at 40-70 years old [??]) right next to a modern shopping center.

Started off slow, but then mom found a fantastic necklace. It has possible wood or seed beads, with a double-sided silvery rectangle of Jesus and Mary, and another chain leading down to Jesus on the Cross. I was close by and when she hollared and I looked over I thought it was a bicycle chain! Very nice.

After more time I'd found around ten coins, all 1974 or newer. There were a couple more posts left, and a few feet from one got another bright signal, so I figured another memorial. But when it came out there she was, Ms Liberty! I knew it was old but didn't remember the date range, then saw 1848!!! Thought it had to be fake but when mom saw it she reassured me it wasn't. Yeah!!

And it's in amazing condition too, approaching or at AU. These scans don't do it justice at all. The lines in the shield are perfectly clear, her arms too, etc. Don't know why my scanner didn't pick up all those details.

We're definitely headed back to that area!

Mom chimes in: Wowee! We had a blast. Slow start, then Varoom! Bonanza! When Mr. Heepiepow found his gorgeous lady liberty, I was farther back in the wooded area scoping out paths -- then I heard him shout! By the time I hustled back to the old fence line, he was rolling on the ground laughing and hollering! And when he held up his coin, I started hollering and laughing too -- even with dirt clinging to parts of it, it was obvious that this 1848 beauty was in fabulous condition underneath! Absolutely beautiful coin. Will get some better pics of it later with our camera. And when I finally learn after all this time how to post my own pics on t-net, I'll show off my beaded rosary/necklace too. HH to All. Andi (g-olden years on t-net)

That's a rosary she found, not a necklace

OK.

I'm not up to date on Catholicism. Looked like a necklace to me, as it fits around and hangs from the neck.

My mother is more aware and said it could be a rosary, btw. I didn't include this, as my post was primarly offerring my own initial reflections and reactions to our absolutely wonderful metal detecting day.

Sorry! Yeah, it was a great day! We were hoping to find some pre-65 coins, and both found a lot better than that! :laughing9:

Wow, that's a beautiful coin. You took a big jump into the 1800s with that one.
