Found these in Arizona in a dry wash not far from an old stage/mining area. Found the big horseshoe first down deep between some river rocks then found the small object next to it. I think its the broken off end of a spoon/fork. Then about 10 feet away I found the small horseshoe down deep too between some rocks. Would that be for a pony or a mule? Maybe from the Pony Express?? ;D
This was my first outing with my new Cibola so I was really happy when I dug up that first horseshoe. Tomorrow is also my birthday so lucky me! I'm going to let the objects soak overnight in some Hoppes #9 (gun cleaner) to get some of the rust off. Any other recommendations for cleaning them?

Overall I think I like the Cibola better than my Silver uMAX. It seems a lot more stable and silent. It gives off a lot less pops and cracks even with the SENS cranked up all the way. I seem to be locating deeper objects as well. However the DISC didn't seem to do anything for iron at all!

Here's how I ran it:
- SENS cranked all the way up
- THRESHOLD cranked all the way up
- DISC knob around "5 CENTS" (way past IRON)

However all day long I was getting STRONG hits for little 2" long pieces of rusted old fence wire and little chunks of old rusted cans. I thought I was "super tuning" my Cibola by having the THRESHOLD turned all the way up? But if the THRESH is cranked all the way up does it make the DISC less usable? My Silver uMAX seemed to filter out a lot more iron than the Cibola and I was digging up a lot less junk with it. It gave off more noises but it didn't give me strong "DIG NOW!" readings for iron junk when I was way past the IRON DISC setting.
Even with the DISC cranked to MAX I was getting strong hits that turned out to just be little pieces of rusted iron wire. What do you guys think? Am I not using the THRESH knob correctly and am I making the detector too sensitive by cranking it up all the way? Do I need to balance the THRESH knob with the DISC knob?

I normally run my Cib at Threshold 1 oclock, and sens between 7-8, and disc below nickle. That tunes out most small iron (except med/lg washers). As for disc'ing out large iron, like a metal hinge plate, or horseshoe, forget it. The Cib will hit on it, but it gives a clipped tone on iron it is trying to disc out, so you can tell it is iron if you pay attention.

Thanks for the tip. I will try that setting out the next time I go hunting. I think by having the THRESH and SENS knobs cranked all the way up I was making the Cibola too sensitive and not allowing the DISC to do its job. I think in order for it to be "super tuned" effectively the different knobs need to be balanced.

I turn my threshold and sensitivity up as much as I can on my Cibola. I get better depth that way. It does hit on larger iron even with the disc turned up. I have used this machine so much though, that I can easily recognize the iron signals and can disregard them. Try practicing on some iron and you will easily be able to tell when you are picking them up.
