First relic hunt of 2010 and it's going to be tough to beat :)

It's been a long time coming, but finally got out to a site I secured permission on a couple months ago. It was a long day searching a very large farm trying to find the location of a Union camp site. The troops were only there a couple days, but there were thousands of them. We started detecting around 9:30 am or so and it wasn't until nearly 2:00pm we stumbled across the first signs of any Civil War activity. But in just the few short hours left in the day I did recover 7 Williams Cleaners, an unfired 3 ringer, an unidentified "worked" bullet, a fired 3 ringer, 2 fired unknown bullets and some field lead. I also found a Silver Officer's Infantry Eagle "I" cuff button. It's damaged and I can't quite make out the back marks yet, but still an awesome find :headbang: I think the pot metal piece may be part of a trigger guard and in a different area I found an unidentifed tag of some sort from Huntsville Alabama and what looks like some sort of early Native American tool.

Keep the coils swinging and Happy Hunting to all!!!

Now you're talking big guy. Way to go Joe. :hello2: I'm sure that's just a small sample of what lies ahead for you.
They must not of like Williams cleaners to throw so many away. :tongue3:
Great hunt for sure,
Doug

That's odd to find so many Williams cleaner bullets on not a bunch of .58's. Maybe the .58's will show up on the next hunt. Congrats on the nice buttons.

hard to say without better pics but it might be a full groved hammer stone and a square knife(plano complex) late paleo.

GREAT!!! Now that you know where to look, no telling what you'll be finding and posting for us to see! :icon_pirat: I think locating the site is half the fun. Diggin' the goodies is the icing! 8)

Way to go!!! Nana :)

Thanks everyone!

Doug, well now that Tiger is not playing golf anymore I figured I would get back into detecting LOL!! And did you really have to go there with that picture? Of all the pictures, you had to pick that one?

Hey Jason, glad to be back on Tnet. It has been a long time, but I am going to try and keep things rolling here again!! Thanks for the Christmas wishes, I had just been way buried in stuff and barely able to get anything other than work done.

Thanks Nana, I too love the thrill of the hunt, especially when all the time and efforts pays off in the end.

Dman, I can't explain all the Williams cleaners either. My hunting buddy of the day found 2 3 ringers and 1 Williams cleaner. I can say with certainty we were not the first ones to come across this site with detectors, and the signals were not that great on the bullets at or below 4 inches, so maybe the older technology missed the cleaners and picked up most the .58's?

The good news is I should be hitting a Confederate campsite in a few weeks, so maybe that will turn up some great treasures too.
