Hunted in what I was SURE was a 'hunted out' school yard from the earily 1900s. Completely jumped when I realized the barber wasn't a typical clad! Ran to my truck muttering 'no way! no way!' haha. sure got the juices goin.

found a war nickel, was so covered in muck that I didn't realize it until the cleanup. Found what appears to be a cowboy boots bolo, its quite heavy and possibly copper or bronze. have only lightly brushed it and am new so I can not tell. Gut tells me its bronze. All found at the old school.

The last find seems to be more modern, initials, G.A.R. and its quite brittle. Possibly off of a mailbox? Found this in a riverbank. Not sure what it is! Anyone?

It looks like it has something to do with the Grand Army of the Republic, which was a post Civil War veterans organization for Union soldiers.

fullstock got the GAR item. probably the pin bar from a GAR convention medal/pin

Congrats on the silver. Great finds.

Good finds !!

Keep @ it and HH !! :hello2:

Nice finds double silver and the G.A.R. item....Nice!

Thanks everyone! Just emailed the local Sons of Union Civil War Veterans chapter asking for information on the piece and am willing to submit it to their collection. History has its place, after all.

This clearly shows that no place is ever hunted out. Great finds! :notworthy:

Yup! Barber was hanging out under what look like a relatively young tree (70 years old) and the boots were found in the piles made by the snow plows at the edge of the parking lot. About 3 dollars in clad were found elsewhere along with a LOT of pulltabs from the 70s 80s and newer beavertails. Just not sure what it means that I am not finding copper cents or other clad older than the 60's. Any ideas? I've gridded and zigzagged etc, but am not finding anything else. Hopefully tomorrow after this rain we are having today I will detect some deeper signals. Have to wait until school is out though, am itching to get back there ;)
