I dont find much silver as I mostly beach hunt so this got me jazzed. I went hunting with my explorer and my new 10X12 SEF coil this afternoon for a short hunt in the woods, just to see how the coil handled the iron and dirt. It was only about 3 or 4 inches down but there were plenty of roots to keep it company :icon_scratch:.......dang roots, none of them on the ocean beach ;D
One poster on another forum IDed it as a 1/2 reale, he put up a wikipedia link, gotta remember to use wikipedia!
Happy New Year everyone!

Yes, roots are a pain..but seems it was well worth the effort.

You found Spanish Silver (which is still on the wish list) & you talk about it like a regular coin. Surely a mid-18th century coin the US is a significant find, is it not? Now start dancing :D

Great looking Reale! Congrats!

I have found some of my best silver coins near beaches in the tree roots. Most people hunt
the easy places, they really don't like the hard spots to hunt. It's that way anywhere, the easy stuff,
isn't there any more. The good stuff is in the hard to hunt sites.

I'd hunt those woods more often. Great find.

Only plant life I know on the beach is in the dunes and you can't dig on dunes. Cause they need them for lol... little flood control they provide. :icon_scratch:

Nice find!!! :o

Keep @ it and HH!! ;D

Same here Jerry, some frozen ground and snow but once you break past the first inch its softer dirt.
I hunted back there again today while it was snowing and had a great time. found one small flat button I have soaking right now, just nice still quiet and snow is so much easier to deal with compared to rain.

At least until the next storm or right winds come through and move some sand around :icon_pirat:
I usually do my inland hunting in the winter when bugs arent a concern and foilage is less.
This kinda find is gonna get me going more often for sure
