So I got a sweetheart deal on an Omega 8000 a few days ago. I've been wanting to upgrade for a while now and I think I found a really great fit. Hopefully I'll be able to step it up a bit this year.

So anyway I haven't had much time to use it but I did manage to squeeze in a couple of short hunts and dig up a few things. I haven't gotten any silver or gold yet but I'm working on it.

My coolest find so far (imo) was my first trolley token; good for one fare......

It's from the United Railway and Electric Co., Baltimore, MD. The company was in business from 1899 to 1935 but I have no clue what the date on this one would be. It's really small, maybe the size of a dime. I thought it was just a button at first until I took a closer look. It was pretty deep but rang up loud and clear so I was pretty impressed.

I also dug what I think may be an interesting button or pin fragment. I have no clue what it is but if anyone can identify it I'm all ears...

The front has an eagle emblem reverse has the letters "L.I I.". I have no clue what that may mean; if anything.

Then there was a 1910 Wheatie in pretty rough shape (my oldest yet), a gold plated eagle pin (that I thought was gold at first) and one old skeleton key (my first and only) thrown in from an earlier hunt using the Delta.....

I know there's nothing fantastic at this point but I haven't had any time and the spot I hit is one I've hunted steadily for almost two years. I think I've gotten most of the good stuff out but you never know.

I wasn't really expecting anything over the top. My goal was to get out and use this new machine and get a feel for it. After using the Delta for as long as I have I basically just slid right into the Omega and was digging targets in a matter of minutes. The two are very similar in many ways. Like the Delta, the Omega definitely loves small, round targets which is excellent for hunting rings and coins.

I do know (or at least hope) that I shouldn't be missing too many targets with this one and I feel really good about the deal I made.
I hope to have some decent weather so I can get out for a good solid day or two and see what pops.
We'll see.

That's about it for now.

Thanks for looking and HH.....

Some interesting finds, congrats!

The pin has a similar design to some of the buttons I've seen posted here. I know very little about civil war stuff, being from IN... wish I could help

Congratz! I love that token!

The pin is a spec 4 rank pin. Being that i's black it was used on the duty uniform of a soldier in the Army. If it were brass it would have been for dress uniforms.

I Love the token and am glad the Omega is working well for you.

Yeah LOCODIGGER... look at you go. Good job on the ID!

Nice finds G424.

So what exactly does Spec rank 4 mean and is it the regular US Army or possible CW??

I found this not two miles from a spot where a Confederate camp and armory once was. The sad part is there's no hunting allowed there.
Oh and thanks for the ID btw....

It's modern, if you are in a combat arms field you get promoted from PFC to a corporal, but if you are not combat arms you get promoted to a specialist. It is not a civil war pin. I believe the specialist rank (E-4) started in 1955.

Good to know. Thanks. If I ever need a military item ID'd, I know who to call.

It's not exactly in good shape anyway. I've really found the craziest variety of things at this site.
