Went out hunting with a detecting buddy yesterday and we hit the woods pretty hard, at least where we could swing. Pulled a couple knapsack iron buckles out and some odds and ends. After about 2-3 hours poking around the woods, we hit around the older house on the property. We only about 15 feet from the corner when I got a nice tone. It was chirpy on the AT, but that's due to a couple of nails and to my surprise, a full size and intact stirrup. But the crown jewel was the buckle, something that I never thought would be there. Not having dug one, I expected the high ping and grunts to be flat iron. BOY was I WRONG. These two items were about 6 inches apart in the hole. The stirrup had roots growing through it and took me a while to get out intact. I found that after the buckle, proving you always should re-check your holes. We even joked about buckles most of the morning, saying we'd take one even if it was hit by a plow.
