Got out this morning before the heat and hunted the school two blocks from my house . Both my kids went here and I have hunted it many times over the years . My son found his first Merc dime years ago in the back field and it has given up many wheats . The school was build in the late 60's but the ground it's on had many old farms dating back to the mid 1800's . The best find of a one hour hunt came on the 4th target . I had a +14 at 4 inches . When I put the coin out I could see it was a worn nickel. Then I saw them , stars all around the edge and a very faint outline of Lady Liberty! It is my first V nickel in over 15 years:headbang: . She is very worn but after my son and I taking a very close look under a magnifier we both saw 1883! I know a lot of you find these all the time but around my area it just doesn't happen . So on to the rest  . Other finds were a 1935S wheat , 1959D penny , large stainless cross and a tiny kids ring. Total clad found was $3.88 . :icon_thumright:

Congrats on finding a great old coin rare to your neck of the woods. I may dig more than some folks but, that doesn't take away the grin on my mug when I pull one out of the dirt. Lovely coin design and cool to recover.:headbang:

I detect a lot and I've only found 3 V nickels in the past 3 years. Mine were a very dark brownish red color, barely legible, so I decided to scrub mine with a Brillo pad. Everyone said don't, but they're only worth a small about, so I just want to enjoy seeing them in a better way. Great job on such a old V. My earliest is a 1898. Here a picture of the outcome. I love my V's. Enjoy yours.IMG_0626.webpIMG_0627.webp

worn is a lot better than no V nickle at all and that is my story. I would be stoked too! congrats on pulling it out of the ground
