I had a chance to go out Monday and do my first water detecting of the season. It had been hot but the day I was able to go it was 48 degrees when Igot to that lake. The water was a little warmer, but it was still cold. If I hadn’t had a wet suit I would have had to try another day. It did get sunny but only got up to 60 and it was breezy so I only managed 3.5 hours with the ATPro before I had to call it quits.
The finds were few as expected this early in the season, but I had to give it a try hoping for some gold and silver. I found a few bits of foil, the usual fishing sinkers, some earring backs, 2 tabs, 4 coins ($.41), an odd dragon decorated piece and a nice silver ring. The only penny I found was a 1957 wheat (a recent loss from its condition). The ring has some CZs in it and is marked 925. The dragon piece is cool looking, but I’m not sure what it is part of. It has a large hole in the back like it was on the end of a magic wand or something. Any ideas?
After I got out of the water I changed out of my wet suit and went to campus to work the parking lot divider strips some more with the CZ 21. I had 2 hours and managed 64 coins with a face value of $3.23, a car key, a DAV license plate key tag and a mashed and mangled silver ring. The ring is marked 925 with a makers mark that is so scared up I cant make it out. It looks like it was run over by a car several times or hit by the snow plow, but silver is silver so I’ll take it.
The DAV key tag was in the ground long enough that the cardboard license plate ID part has rotted away and only the aluminum shell is left. I remember getting these in the mail with a replica of my license plate in the frame. They made them from 1941 to 1975. The school opened in the 60s so this one was produced between 1960 and 1975.
I had a cold start, but ended up with some gas money, two silvers and a good day out walking the detectors in the sun. Thanks for looking and may your coil lead you to good things.
