We helped a good friend of our's move when they sold their cottage . She gave us this fossil . She didn't know where it came from . Any input ? We don't know much about this type of thing . Thanks !

Well, a really bad guess usually jump-starts things, so here's mine.

Kind of reminds of the diplomystus fossil fish found around Green River, Wyoming.

I was gonna guess gizzard shad ::). Those are some of the neatest fossils. I like the fish ones best...d2

What do I know? They all look like dead fish to me! :D

Seriously, TT, I'd say that's a really close match.

The type of fish that are commonly in these type of fossil remnents are
the Knightia ( a long and skinny fish)
the Diplomystus (which usually show scales and have a bigger belly)
the Priscacara (which is very oval shaped)

It probably came from the Ulrich Quarry in Wyoming
