Thanks for your reply Lucas on the pin.. I am an amatuer at ID ing trade -era artifacts and want to learn more about this type of searching..Ive found some items that are trade-era I believe Clay pipes ..spanish silver..flintlock parts in sites that date from the 1830s ..and I live near a large river that had to be used by early trappers /Indians for travel fishing hunting..Are there any books or sites which would be good for a beginner to study / learn about the details of this facet of searching? Thanks in advance... Good hunting all

Honestly and truly, there's a lot of cr@ppy books out there that are full of stuff that has nothing to do with fur trade.

Bob's photo gallery (see recent posts) and his auctions are where you will see more genuine early fur trade stuff than in 20 museums.

For books, find a library that has the Museum of the Fur Trade Quarterly, and Lyle Stone's book on Michilimackinac artifacts.
