I found a decent trowel ,it comes in a pouch-folds and is made of stainless steel. They are at wal-mart in the camping section (sporting goods). They cost $3.88 ,it is the perfect size for prospecting and for your cons.Seem to hold up fairly well ,and fit in your back-pack.They are not to big,and for less than $4 cheap enough to buy several,2 for the back-pack,1 for feeding cons, even bought my wife one for flowers(NOTE---actually -that one is on standby!just in case i lose one-or break it!)

Thanks for the tip. Right now I use one of those black plastic treasure scoops to tote around in my pack because it is handy around the metal detector too.

thanks for the info spooky,i'll have to watch it.so far it has been for cleaning cracks and not for serious digging.but it's perfect for scooping my cons.
