Fossil… I duno…

Found this piece eroded out of Pennsylvanian limestone, se Kansas… it’s proved to be very difficult to photograph, it is a cylindrical shape about a half inch long. made of what I would say is calcite with a little encrustation on it, I’d be comfortable calling it a belemnite or something similar except the two projections, that’s where pictures are failing. The two projections are triangular and made of a more opaque lighter material… they remind me of teeth, wondering if it isn’t some kind of jaw segment, or maybe they are some kind of scute like maybe a section of ray tail? Or there’s always the possibility it’s just a weird way the limestone has adhered to the cylinder shaped bit, but the shape seems a little too uniform to be natural, they both make a triangle with one side forming a flatter face and the other side with a ridge. I don’t think the pictures do it a lot of justice, the camera seemed to blend the whole thing into a homogeneous shade of buff… any thoughts are welcome, I’d love to find a vertebrate fossil, got tons of shells but no bone or teeth or anything like that.

Maybe a piece of very eroded crinoid stem?

Thanks for the reply been meaning to try to draw it out and see if that doesn’t help, not saying you’re wrong, could be bits of matrix but it’s those projections that have me wondering.
