I once found a silver rosie in the parking lot just outside of the store doors. I assume it was someone who figured the machine wouldn't take that dang useless dime and they didn't want to carry it any more.
I am something of a coinstar miner (especially on the weekends). The local grocery store's machine is in the cart area, by the door, so I can walk in and out within moments to check it without even being noticed. So, any time I am out doing other things, I'll make a stop by. I know this may make me seem a fanatic, but I DID find 56 silver dimes and a commemorative half dollar in the reject one Saturday. Without tallying everything, I would guess I have gathered somewhere over 200 silver coins from in and around the machine in the past 4 years.
I said all that to say this...
If I find a zincoln in the feed tray, I will leave it hidden in the corner. If I go back hours later and it is still there, I learn useful metrics on when and how often the machine is used. It has taught me that sometimes the local machine gets used (or checked!) quite often... and sometimes it can go for a whole 24 hours or more without a single use!
However... the fanatic in me still tells me to check often. You never know when someone is going to randomly dump something good!
Happy hunting and good luck.
