The owner of the cemetery told me that many items were stolen from the cemetery and some headstones a loooong time ago. If we can identify what this is to help return it to the rightful place I would be stoked.

This thing feels like it is made of lead and has a blue cross on the front. There is a hole under the bulge of the cross as seen in picture 2. It measures 2 1/4" inches across and has 2 holes in the side like it could have been mounted to something before.

Hole in the base of the "bulge":

Its looks like an Iron Cross.

Could be made of White Metal, which was used in some 19th c casket hardware.

When you enlarge the first photo to the max, it looks like it has printing at the 10 o'clock position.

I believe it to be a medallion that was attached to an iron post on a grave. I lived next to a 16th-17th century grave yard and saw a lot of them. It looks too far gone to tell what it was.

Welcome to Tnet from Toronto Ross! :hello:

I agree with your suggestion Bill, that this is likely fence decoration of some kind which may or may not be connected to the cemetery.
As invent4hir already mentioned it may also be funeral casket decoration. :icon_scratch:

To me it looks like part of a drop-pull handle. But too big and too heavy for a common drawer pull...

I agree with DCMatt; it looks to be a back plate to a pull for a large door or container.

Welcome!
:)

Hi Breezie, :hello:
Nice to see that you're back!

When I first became a member here, I remember you posting a bronze slave bracelet that you found.
I found that find so amazing!

Take care,
Dave

Heeeey Dave,
Good to see you! :) Yes, I remember very well the day I dug the slave bracelet. At first, I threw it in the 'junk' box because I thought it was a cheap 'hippie' bracelet from the 60's. It's framed with the magazine article from Western & Eastern Treasures magazine, and hanging in my office.
:)

I agree with DCMatt, I think it is part of a drop pull handle. It would be one side that the handle itself rests in. That would explain the holes in the side to be mounted and the hole in the bulge part where the handle would attach. Possibly from a casket. I couldn't find any with this particular design, but some online from antique caskets looked similar.
