Yesterday while researching a particular county that I like to metal detect in I found a passage that talks about a Pro South Missouri Home Guard Camp. After making a call to lady whose house I have detected in the past that I knew was a member of this counties museum I was able to find out what town this camp was in and also the name of the land owner who ownes the property. I drove the hour and a half north of Kansas City and with no problem at all I was able to track down the land owner. I asked him if he ever heard of Camp Highly and he smiled at me. He told me how his father told him about it years ago. I told him that I heard it was on his property and was wondering if he knew where it was. He said sure and pointed out into the corn field we were standing next to and he said it was over there. We exchanged phone numbers and after obtaining permission he went about his work and I grabbed my detector. I only had 30 minutes before we were hit with a severe thunder and lightning storm but in that 30 minute time period I was able to confirm that I had found the camp. I found 4 pieces of lead one of them being a musket ball.

I will be going back this weekend and hopefully will be able to spend the whole day there.

Hopefully it's just the beginning of an awesome site for ya

Well done and nice story O.D. I'd be excited about going back there if I were you. Even at age 61, I still have trouible sleeping the night before we go to a promising new site. HH, Quindy.

The research can be everything sometimes. Nice job on getting permission and good luck with your camp.

Sorry for the Delay, it's been a busy weekend. I got back out there Saturday and spent a good 4 or 5 hours detecting the corn field (I can't wait till they plow it). I found a couple pieces of Brass and 7 more bullets. It will be a couple of eweeks before I can get back out there sot this will have to do for now. Thanks for your interest.
