Carolina Tom came up early sunday morning to attend a guaranteed silver hunt and he did quite well. I took him to a new permission of mine, ive only hunted it twice so it still qualifies as a new site to me. I found two 1899 dog check tags that I can only assume were issued by the city. they have a number on them and the name Newton.
if anyone has any info that would be great. also found a couple v nickles which is very unusual for my area. ive only found a couple in 4 years. happy hunting everyone IMG_20161114_183749614_HDR.webpIMG_20161114_183830356_HDR (1).webp

Those tags are very interesting. I posted a similar object which has a mans name , street address and date 1919. I hope you get a sure answer and maybe the one i found can be grouped along with yours. Great work.

Nice finds - tags should clean up nicely! Thanks for sharing...

Post it up in Tokens and Tags, down in Metal Detecting Forum.
Oddcoins has a Thread for old dog tags. He likes looking up info on them.

Wow, those dog tags are the oldest I have ever seen.

Congrats on another good hunt Patch. :occasion14: I love those dog tags, I haven't found one older than the 1950's in my area.

Oldest dog tags I can remember seeing posted, pretty darn cool. It would be interesting like Rick67 said to see what oddcoins comes up with?

Those are a couple of nice looking dog tags.

Let start off with, thanks for taking me on a killer hunt, and finish with, I can not believe you didn't leave one of those dog tags for me to find!

I don't know if it's because I didn't find them, but I like them best out of all of the finds from Sunday. Congrats on really nice haul of goodies. Hopefully Oddcoin will chime in with some information on the tags.

Best of luck to you, and I'll see you soon!

Most the early dog tags I've seen were marked dog tax, I'm guessing these were just another version of a dog tag..
With that said, Awesome!! A 1800's dog tag is at the top of my "wish list".
I have no clue but, these tags might have been used at a dog kennel? Hope you get some answers on these tags.
Congrats on a couple Sweet finds!!
