This past week I have been out on campus, back in the water at a different swimming area and back to the club hoping to find a little silver or gold. But no luck until yesterday when I found an old horseshoe early in the hunt.
I have been finding a nice number of coins, but the penny count has been high, one day 160 coins with 121 being pennies. The next day 154 coins with 120 pennies. Back in the water only 23 coins, 10 being quarters which is good, but only 3 junky earrings with no silver or gold. (Not too unusual, but disappointing)
Along the way I did find a few interesting bits, the base of an old note/receipt spike, a fish shaped key ring fob with a biblical quote, and part of a copper roofing fastener.
Yesterday I found a nice old horseshoe and my luck improved. Most of the coins I found were quarters and dimes (18 quarters and 27 dimes with only 38 pennies), the trash pile was smaller than usual as well. Toward the end I managed to find a nice little silver pendant. (I check the hole and the dirt carefully, but no chain, just the pendant). So it looks like the horseshoe was lucky for me.
Hexagon copper top of a roofing fastener beside a complete square one. I have found these at numerous yards. Some even are marked with a manufacturer name. I know some were used in the early 1900’s as part of the Sears mail order house kit. (More evidence if the old farm that was here)
Fish key chain fob that says “JESUS SAID FOLLOW ME AND I’LL MAKE YOU FISHERS OF MEN”.
Note/receipt spike base (More evidence of the old farm that was here)
Water hunt, the usual sinkers, junky earrings and earring backs, with tabs and broken bits of tabs.
Lots of gas money and another little bit of silver for the pile. I’m still swingin, hope you are too. Thanks for looking and may your coil lead you to good things.
