found a spot & need help

I caught up with an old friend who knows about a site where a town flooded out in 1913. He said there are lots of foundations and a old RR station there. How do you approach a hunt on someplace of this size ? Any advice/direction would be great I'm headed up there Saturday AM I'll post all finds/loot Thanks Acevilla-v

I would try to do a little research on the old town to find out where the older homes are located. Then start at the train depot after you finish it go to where the old homes are and search the front and back yards. Good luck. Cliff

What was the cause of the flood? If it was from a river overflow, depending on how close the town was to the river, the "goodies" may not have washed as far. If it was from a dam break, the currents might have moved stuff a long way. Also, the overburden may be too deep to reach some of he heavier stuff. If you could go to the library and do some research on the old town, there may be some photos there to give you some idea of what the town looked like before the flood. Go to google earth, and look at the site from satellite. It may show exactly where the flood was, which might give you some idea of how things happened.

interesting. I'm wondering if this town happens to be in delaware county N.Y. if so i have some old maps and some before and after pics from a historical society website i would share if you think it would aid in your efforts. good luck.
