Any other pictures? How thick is it? The first thing I thought of when I saw your picture was a landmine. Country of origin?

If you blow that picture up, it truly looks like a landmine. It sure looks like a disc with a button in the center.:dontknow:

It looks like it could be a land mine. Based on some of his posts in other threads he seems to be hunting in New England/Connecticut. But he could be out of the country at the moment.

Shovel is a HomeDepot HDX so presumably it is in the USA.

How thick is this disc? Is it a lid or a cylinder?

I saw this item yesterday when he/she posted it, and thought it looked like a landmine, but didn't post because I don't know anything about them except what I've seen in photos. After checking back in tonight, I was shocked to see everyone's post.

Of course, if it is a pot lid, wait until next Spring, bury it in your potential garden, then call the authorities to find it. You should have a nicely dug garden before they leave! :)

Call the FBI or another lettered group and say that you have something buried in your yard...it'll be dug in a heart beat.

How ironic. The first machine I ever hunted with was a modified GI "mine detector." When we relic hunted, we'd say, "I'm going mine detecting." And now it comes full circle . . . !

No word from the OP? Hope they didn't whack it with a shovel and set it off.... If it's here in the US I doubt very much it's a mine, although some were found in Illinois near Crab Orchard lake years ago. Those were never armed and were dumped and buried there by an arms maker somewhere around WW2, and as I remember they were found when a tree fell over and they were in the roots.

My bet is on some sort of lid, or the end or a water heater tank, something along those lines, but more info like a side view and a bottom view would help....

Me too Ken. What makes my stomach uneasy is the fact that if it were a pot lid or the likes, wouldn't the OP recognize that?

More on landmines in Illinois....

"It should also be noted, that even today, an unexploded ordnance can occasionally still be found and has be to dealt with by a bomb squad for removal. Around 2006, an anti-tank mine was found during a controlled burn and exploded on the spot by a bomb squad, which suggests that landmines were in use at one time. "

I wonder if the OP found it in Illinois or surrounding states?
