✅ SOLVED Found around an old homeplace need help!

Found this item at an old homeplace that belonged to my wife's family! I'm new to treasure hunting and Metal detecting but I am having a blast! Mostly finding scrap but this item looks like it had some distinguished purpose! Help if u know what it is!

I failed to mention this item is about the size of a half dollar. It appears to be iron.

It appears to be crudely made. Or is it just badly damaged? Is it a homemade piece or machine made?

looks like a cleat for an old split rim wheel.{damaged}

Dc Matt it is heavily damaged due to rusting away! Canyon I'm unfamiliar with what the cleat u mentioned looks like I did a search on google and couldn't find it. But u may be in to something I will investigate further!
