I found this underneath a tree root. 16 inches - stake of some kind?

Your first relic looks to be part of a wood burning stove grate, likely the inside base where the wood burned.
The second item is probably plow related hardware, it may also be structural building related hardware.
These are often found where a building may have burned down.

Bolts like this are tough to I.D. but they're frequently found on most early farm sites.
