Found Coin on St Thomas Beach

My daughter found this coin on a St Thomas beach on our vacation this week. We would like some advice on how to clean it and any insight as to what it might be. The barnacles are disappearing with dish soap and water.

From my own beach finds of silver, I suggest your find is at least, partly silver.
I don't know where St Thomas beach is but I went to a St Thomas school
