Super job and keep digging, first shotgun hull base next a copper colonial then silver mercury to 5 dollar gold..... :hello2:

Congratulations on a great find! The date range for your specific headstamp is 1915-1937. There was a different variety from 1911-1914. Once again, congrats on a great find!

Great first official find SilverKiller. Now, mount that puppy and hang her up as your very first find.

I like the shotshells caps, I've found several dating back the late 1800's early 1900s in the area I hunt, I have pre Rem-UMC which was my first cap, your engraving stamp is very nice, mine are a little beat and worn due the very wet ground I hunt. Nice Find.

I always thought the New Club types were from the 1940,s or 1950,s [judging by how many I find]. Most might consider Shotgun brass , junk but I've come to like the different types I dig. It's nice to be able to easily find something as old still in the ground in abundance , like minie balls were in the early days of relic hunting & maybe someday people will cherish as rare what we can easily find in these times. I'm hoping so.

Shotshell heads are without a doubt my favorite thing to collect! My collection now numbers in the 5,000 piece range! Their history, variety and in some cases rareness just amazes me.

In 1854, Jacob Schuyler, Marcellus Hartley and Malcomb Graham formed the Schuyler, Hartley & Graham Sporting Goods Company in New York City. Destined to become one of the largest sporting goods houses in the world, it provided cartridges and rifles produced by other manufacturers to the Union Army during the Civil War and amassed a fortune. In 1866, the company acquired two small cartridge companies, and the following year re-incorporated as the Union Metallic Cartridge Company (UMC) in Bridgeport, Connecticut. By 1900, Hartley was the sole owner of the company.

U.M.C. known as the Union Metallic Cartridge Company was founded in 1867 by Marcellus Hartley in Bridgeport, Connecticut. They manufactured a variety of shells up until 1911 at which time the company was merged with Remington. Such shells brand the name REM.UMC.

I have one UMC and a REM UMC cap, but like fore mentioned very hard to read.

Here's a side by side.

Thanks for the info. Also my dad has found quite a few UMC shotgun brass. Thanks again for the nice comments. Good luck. ;)

Congrats, I just found the same thing just about a week ago. :)

Hate to show my age but I fired some of those at a trap shooting range when I was around 15 or so and can still remember the powder smell.....
