Found: Fathers old watch, repair and restore advice needed

Reading some of the finds here of old watches made me remember that my father had a few stashed away from years ago. My father passed away in 1997 and was in the military from 1951-1972 so I have quite a few memorable objects, but the few watches he had were not even on my radar as I have never really been a watch guy. The first and less interesting is a solar powered Seiko watch from 1981 which I will post in the future. The second and as it turns out is more interesting is this:

1950's Zodiac triple date moon phase with black dial. The watch needs at least new hands, new crystal and a good cleaning. Would you have someone redo the dial, or would you get a less damaged one? I saw one online but it is pricey. Believe it or not I wound it up a little and it runs. I think that at least one of the bands pictured is original. If this was your fathers watch, what would you do and who would you send it to? Thanks in advance.

How do you feel about the watch? Repair on these can be spendy.

Would this watch be handed down to a son or nephew that would cherish the history?

Watch would not be for sale, I would want it done the right way without diminishing its value.

I would not touch the dial if it is still Original. Original dials are most of the value and they look great a little battered.
Find an original hand set
Try Zodiacs website to see if they offer restoration services. Many of the watch makers do. Then you would be sure that it is all correct when you get it back. Nice watch p s I don't think either of those bands are original. If they are they will say Zodiac on them. FYI

Take your time and get lots of advice/ Restore it if you can. I have a vintage Heuer (turler) before it was Tag Heuer and they want almost 1000 just to crack it open. I would replace the face and hands on that one. Have it the way it was when your Dad saw and wore it.Make it something to pass down.

I contacted the admin of a vintage Zodiac forum and was put in touch with a shop that specializes in Zodiac Watches. The watch goes out this week for estimates. I really want this watch to eventually go to my grandson who is now 4. There is absolutely zero chance it will leave the family while I am alive.
